Tonight’s stroll around the loch with the camera produced a couple of photo opportunities…before retiring to the common room for a few games of “One Night Ultimate Werewolf”!
Our afternoon activity today was climbing and abseiling…and the forecast was scattered showers! It was going to be interesting. There was a short walk from the centre up to a crag overlooking the site and the loch…and the view from the top was amazing. Most of the group had a decent of the cliff face…and in many cases, personal fears were triumphed. Well done to everyone who had a go – especially Harry and Maddy.
Our morning activity today was Canoeing. We paired up, grabbed a canoe and headed out across the lake…Jon and Tom now hold the record for the most swims…and Maddy and Holly for the most decorative way to wear seaweed! Our instructor (Ella) almost incurred our wrath…when she duck-napped Mr Duck and dragged him behind her canoe…she seen saw the error of her ways.

There have been many funny moments (and we’re only on day 3)…so please enjoy round 1!
Monday was our turn to do flagbreak…so we decided to combine it with an investiture – our newest leader, Mad Alice. We have enticed her over to Explorer Scouting from the dark side (Cubs Scouts!). Welcome to FreeSpirit.
Following an excellent roast chicken dinner, we commandeered a meeting room within the centre. At this point both Units went into chill mode…the poker school resumed, a Yu Gi-oh game started, onsie’s were worn, cards were underway…and we suffered a shark attack!
…and the late night film beckons! I believe that tonight’s showing is Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Slayer…a classic! (not!!)
The afternoon’s activity was to design and build a raft…then race it across the loch! It was decided that FreeSpirit wanted to compete against Brakestone…a decision that they were to regret later on. FreeSpirit’s design looked compact and safe, whilst Brakestone’s design looked more radical…but would it be stable?
BrakeStone’s design proved more stable and were a clear winner!
Immediately following Jacob’s challenge…we headed into the archery range, and found that Rob is a mean dude with a bow – don’t mess with this guy!
Following a cooked breakfast and flagbreak, we headed over to the equipment room to kit up in a full harness…our challenge for the next hour and a half, was to get as many of our Unit to the top of the ladder. This was a test of teamwork…and ones ability to come to terms with scary heights!
Stunning achievements by all, but especially tom and Harry.
